Special Thanksgiving edition of Patch Watch

    By Susan Bradley

November's second Patch Watch would normally fall on the 24th. But we assume most Windows Secrets readers in the U.S. will be busy with Thanksgiving.

We know we'll be feasting with friends and family. So we're putting out a slightly early edition of Patch Watch. In my case, I'll be busy over the Thanksgiving holiday roasting a turkey, starting my Christmas decorating — and installing the November patches I previously recommended holding off on.

The full text of this column is posted at windowssecrets.com/patch-watch/special-thanksgiving-edition-of-patch-watch-2/ (opens in a new window/tab).

Columnists typically cannot reply to comments here, but do incorporate the best tips into future columns.

Although I've installed it ok in the last couple of days, Ask Woody is reporting that KB3197868 has now been pulled by MS.

UPDATE: It's now back apparently, with a revised date of 23rd but with no indication of what if anything was changed.

Question re Oct11-16 Updates for Win7 machine

Am I missing something or are we still suppose to wait on KB3181988 released Oct11-16?

Same basic question about KB2952664 but I have hidden it based on Woody's Infoworld article at:
    http://www.infoworld.com/article/309...l-3170735.html

    Thoughts?

When KB2952664 is offered separately, I always hide it as it's a Telemetry update.

Don't know if MS are now including it in the Rollups though.

Although KB 3181988 was mentioned in the Oct. PatchWatch, it isn't clear as to install or not.
Cleaning up Office and Windows nonsecurity fixes
October was a relatively light month for Office nonsecurity updates. A reminder that KB 3118373, an Excel 2016 update, was recalled. Also, September patch KB 3184143, designed to remove "Get Windows 10 code," might show up again on some systems.
For the full list of nonsecurity Office updates, see the October MS TechNet article
    Windows
     2952664 – Windows 7; Win10-compatibility helper, no GWX code
     3181988 – WSFC integrity scanning, usbhub.sys.mui error
 3184143 – Remove software related to the free Win10 upgrade (GWX)

I think that relates to the first Patch Watch in October, the second one dated 27th October suggested installing the non-security updates including KB 3181988 "as you see fit". Given that it was an unchecked optional update I chose to hide it.

My quote came from the Oct. 27th PatchWatch, I guess I should have included "What to do: Install these nonsecurity updates as you see fit".
