Disappearing post

This morning I got the following email:

Robin O replied to your post on the Word board at Woody's Lounge:
'Re: Full Path & File Name in Title Bar (Word 2000)'.

Dear Sam:

Thanks for your helpful instructions. I followed them exactly (five times) and it doesn't seem to work. Just the file name of the Word document appears in the Windows Title Bar, but not the path. I am starting to feel really dumb. I am sure that it is not something Windows-related, because WordPerfect displays the full path and filename in the Title Bar when you are in a document.

The reason why I wanted to enable this is because we often get files attached to e-mail, and when you open, edit (and save as) the document which was e-mailed, it is helpful to know if you are in the C:windowstemp directory or in the directory which you specified during the save as. Sorry to be so thick, but as I said in my initial post, I am a novice Word user (obviously)!

Thanks again for any light you can shed on this.
Robin (surrender)

The post has disappeared. Here is the thread. I suppose that Robin has figured it out and deleted her post, but it is confusing. Maybe when posts are deleted, links to them should say that. Thanks --Sam

Re: Disappearing post

If the last post in a thread is deleted, all trace of it goes.
If a reply had been made to it, it remains - albeit with a message saying it was deleted.

This allows users who have made a (dramatic) mistake to delete their post, often necessary if it is a genuine mistake. I guess you can only wait and see if Robin returns and gives an explanation.

(My calculation shows from the times of the preceding and following posts that it was made between 22:21 and 22:33 UTC on 14th Jan.)

Re: Disappearing post

Thanks, Leif. We were correct, Robin deleted her post. Isn't there a way of retracting an email once it is sent? Seems like I've seen messages disappear from my inbox with some sort of recalled by sender message. Probably too much overhead. Thanks!

Re: Disappearing post

Do you mean the Lounge would recall the notification if it detected a post had been deleted?
Could get very messy - every edit would require a recall/resend and my typo corrections alone would probably bring the server to its knees .

As a rule, I always check the post in the Lounge rather than depending on the notification - editing of corrections and adding after-thoughts is surprisingly common.

AFAIK, 'Recall' is an Outlook/Exchange feature - and from Outlook help:

Recall or replace a message you've already sent
This feature requires Microsoft Exchange.
You can recall or replace a message only if its recipient is logged on and using Microsoft Outlook and has not read the message or moved it from their Inbox.

You're better with Ms. Help than I. I also had looked in Outlook help to no avail. From your post, recall is obviously not worth the trouble, but a delete/edit message would not be that difficult. I think we should add it to the wish list. --Sam

Noted. But definitely wishlist. There are several items with much higher priority that I am already working on.
