Identifying Product Keys (Office XP)

Is there a way to identify which of several Office XP product keys apply to a particular machine?

We have several machines with Office XP, and thought that we had done pretty well in keeping the original disks associated with the right machines, until today when I found two sets of disks which are marked as belonging to the same machine. Is there any way to use the Product ID to identify which Product Key is correct? (Yes, a process of elimination would also work, but several of the machines are laptops not located here in the office.)

Certainly in Excel it shows the Product ID

AFAIK, not with office. There is a utility for winxp to convert the cd key to the PID shown on the Help > about screen but none for Office that i know of. I've never tried it with the office keys - <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.licenturion.com/xp/>http://www.licenturion.com/xp/</A> use the utility that was released during the beta -xpdec i think it's called.

for winxp, it converts the cd key to approx 10 number in the middle of the PID.

cool - the winxp utility works for publisher, so it should work for all of office. (it was the only cd case i could find [img]/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif[/img] to test it)

use the p switch and add the key to it, as in this example:
xpdec -p asdfg-asdfg-asdfg-asdfg-asdfg

the result will be like this:
Your product ID should be XXXXX-123-4567890-XXXXX

It worked for a retail copy of Office 2000 Premium (Upgrade) as well.
