If you have accounts set up in Outlook Express and are using Outlook Express to check those accounts and have Outlook Express set as the default mail handler, IE should automatically open Outlook Express when you press the "Mail" dropdown. (at least mine does, W98SE, IE5.5, OE).

"on my IE status bar", this bar is located at the bottom of the IE window and one can NOT add any icons there. BUT one can add the icon to the "Quick Launch" area of the Windows Task bar, which is located just to the right of the Start button. It should be there by default, mack sure that you have the Quick Launch turned on. Right click the Task Bar and tne select Toolbars and make sure that there is a check mark infront of Quick Launch.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
