Signing into Lounge from Another Locale

I tried to signin from my pc at work with no luck. I usually signin from home so my id is McGinty etc. with ISP as registered here. But my corporate id is quite different. So ... pardon my ignorance ... to facilitate easier entry into Woodys from the Office should I create a new user profle for the office - like "McGinty@the office"???? [We don't like to use our 'real' office e-mail on the web.]

I would suggest it would be neater if you kept the same identity.
I sign in from home and work with no problem - it may a matter of not accepting cookies or other settings - see <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=ann&Number=1917&page=0&view =collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=>Optimal Settings
If you still can't log in at work, you may have some 'bad' cookies - check your cookie list and delete anything with 'wopr' in it.

'Real' office email? - the email address you use for notifications etc. is hidden and can not be accessed by others - not even us Mods!

You said <<< 'Real' office email? - the email address you use for notifications etc. is hidden and can not be accessed by others - not even us Mods! >>>

How do I change that so that when I leave work, or on weekends, or in a case of changing jobs, that the notifications are sent to an alternate e-mail address?

I too would like to log on from home and office, and am trying to figure out the best way to do this.

TIA

Re: Signing into Lounge from Another Locale

My answer to that one is - you don't! If your work address is the one on the lounge, you set up a rule at work to forward all messages from lounge admin to your home address; that way you get all messages at both locations and just ignore the ones you've already read at the other one!

You can do it the other way around, of course - but unless you have a permanent connection, it's better to start at the work address because their server is always online and will forward all messages immediately - your home ones only get forwarded when you go home and connect up, which somewhat negates the point of the forwarding ...

When you change jobs, of course you will have to change the lounge address, but you can make that your home address temporarily and set up the same rule from your new work one as soon as you know it.

Just go to your Control Panel, click on the icon and make your changes there!

I spend most of my time at work, so all mail comes here. I also log in from home occasionally but don't get any notifications there.

You should have no problems logging in from multiple locations - plenty of folk do.

Beryl

At home I have a Broadband always-on connection so I hope that I will be getting these notification messages.

Actually this is exactly what I wanted to do, is to change, either temporarily or permanently, the address of where I get notification messages sent, so how do I set it up? and will this allow me to log on from home and office?

TIA

Re: Signing into Lounge from Another Locale

Logging on is a different matter from receiving notifications. Logging on is simply going to the lounge and signing in to say 'I'm here!' and can be done from anywhere you've got access to the internet. You can log on from the moon if you've got a phone line and a pc with a modem there! Notifications are messages from the lounge saying someone has replied to your post or sent you a private message but you won't get diddley squat until you give the lounge an address to notify you at.

To set the notifications email address, click on Controls (at the top of all lounge pages) and then the tiny head and shoulders icon at top left next to 'Edit your setup'. Third option is email address. Put your main email address here and make sure you click Submit at the bottom of the page.

As I said, then set up a rule at this address forwarding all messages from lounge admin to the other address (from work to home or vice versa) and you'll get all messages at both locations.

Voila!

I should imagine that's stretching Bluetooth technology a little far. I don't think there's enough spare copper to make a quarter of a million mile phone line....

Oh, I don't know - I imagine quantity of copper would be possible - trying to stop the resulting wire from breaking at earth and moon move would be a different matter!

We've got a lot of spare coppers here. They waste most of their time trying to catch me speeding.

Since I was a cop for some time, I think I should find where you are and see if I can post a few strings, so they will look for you more often.

Just have them look out for a trail of bashed bumpers and flattened roos. Actually, giving radar guns to the roos might take care of it since they seem to have a vendetta going against Geoff.
