    Lost Folders (6.0.2600)

I noticed recently that some of the folders under Saved Mail had disappeared (I can't relate the time to any change in my computer). When I used Windows Explorer to browse the files in my OE store folder, I found that the .dbx files with the lost folders' names were there but they had differnt dates from the rest of the .dbx files. I would appreciate suggestions for how to get them back into OE. I looked into everything on the computer and to MS KNowledgebase but wih no luck. Thanks in advance,

    Ernie

I had the same thing happen to me with OE5.5 so I upgraded to OE6 and the folder was still blank. Then I was given this to try and it worked for me with OE6. Here is a little clip from the sight.

    DBXtract .dbx file extractor

    Frequently Asked Questions and Tips

    DBXtract
    Version 2.04 Updated 6/21/00
    PROGRAM FEATURES
OE5 has a proprietary binary format that makes archiving individual
messages difficult. In addition, a number of people have indicated
that their message folders have become corrupted and OE can not read
them. Consequently, they have lost all the messages in that folder.
DBXtract.exe extracts all mail and news messages from individual dbx
files. After extracting the messages one can drag them from a Windows
Explorer folder into an Outlook Express mail folder.

    Hi Diane,

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded and ran DBextract and it extracted the individual messages OK but I haven't been able to move them into OE6, either by dragging or importing. Can you tell me exactly what you did to move the messages back into OE? There seems to be no more info on the dbextract web site. I would also be interested how you learned about it. Thanks,

    Ernie

I haven't bothered putting my messages back into OE but have left them in a folder I extracted them to on C: However, I just tried the drag method on a couple of mine. All I did was open OE, Inbox and minimise to taskbar, then opened the folder with you messages and dragged the message into the minimised OE icon in taskbar. This restored OE and when the envelope outline was where I wanted it I just release the mouse. I found out about this tool in the Gibson Research Corp news groups. news://news.grc.com
