MailMerge - fields with leading spaces

I have a problem with MailMerge in Word97. I want to merge several fields (one per line) where the fields contain leading spaces. Word seems to ignore the spaces and start at the first non-space character in the field. I can't right justify the fields as some also contain trailing spaces and I need the data to line up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Glenn. Could you type an example of your data... is it alpha or numeric or a combination?

    Thanks.

    Hi Glenn:

I don't have that problem with Word 2000. Could you look under Tools/Options/Compatibility & tell me what options you have checked under anything to do with trailing or leading spaces or line breaks? Just a thought.

The data is a mixture of alpha and numeric. For example:
    " 100 Bolts $23.00 "
All fields have "'s around them as sometimes they may contain a comma.

I have tried this in Word 2000 and it seems to work. Problem is with Word 97.

    Thanks for your help,

    Glenn

I don't seem to have the problem with Word 2000, only Word 97. I have check the Compatibility flags in Word 2000, however none are selected.

    Thanks,

    Glenn
