whers the database gone ? (access 2000)

I am trying to use a form from an access 97 database in a 2000 database.
as part of the class module i have a couple of dim statements :
    dim objDB as database
    dim objRS as recordset

why does the compiler complain about the ... as database ... ?

how should i dim the object variable or should i leave it as a variant ?

I supose you want to use DAO
    Open any module.
In tools | References , check Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library
    Use
    dim objDB as DAO.Database
    dim objRS as DAO.recordset
