Custom Tool Bar Button (Excel 97)

Is there a way to change to color of the font and/or the background color of a custom tool bar button? I use text rather than a symbol for the button. I tried to use the edit button feature in customize but it didn't work. Can it be done in VBA?

Thanks in advance

If the button face is completely custom, see this thread. If you want text, you can specify the buttonface as text via

With Application.CommandBars(index).Controls.Add(Type, ID, before, parameter, temporary)
.Caption = "My Text"
.Style = msButtonCaption
End With

There is a huge selection of built in button faces beyond the few you see in the Macro Button assignment dialog, see this post from Brooke, and some of the ensuing discussion in the same thread.
