Export Exchange List Addresses to a File (2000)

How do you get the names within an Exchange List into a document, either Excel or Word?

When I create a dist. list, there is a list of the names and I can File|Save that list and have an editable listing of those entries. When I open an Exchange List, the list name appears on the Name line and only the list name appears in the box where I normally would see the "members" if I had created the list. Going to the list's Properties I can see the member's names and can select them, but they don't copy to the clipboard. If I try to Export the list, all I get is the list's name, not any of the members. So how can I create a document of the MEMBERS of the Exchange List?

Most "IT" departments prevent the "Exchange" list from being copied. You MUST contact them to have the permissions reset or be told "No Way" to have a copy. This is set this way to pevent random copies being made.

I have never dealt with this, for I am NOT a Exchange user.
I think MaryJ will have someting to say on this. I hope she will jump in soon.

It's been almost 2 weeks now. Is there a way to ask MaryJ if she can help on this?

there is a utility that will do what you want, i think. there is a link to it from Slipstick. i'll see if i can find it... hmmm.. i don't see it there. i have a copy here somewhere i'll post.

it's an old utility created by someone at a university and it's called EXDLM10. it works on ol2000 but not on ol2002 (it crashes when it access the gal on 2002)

Attached is a utility excel sheet that extracts the members of a list. You have to enter the DL name, and it builds the list for you. Someone in this group improved the code a while back and re-posted it. I don't recall who. But I'll try and find it. This will get you started, anyway.

Actually, if you're using Exchange Server, you can use Directory Export to export a list of your DLs with all of their members--it's built in. I generally use the Header tool (header.exe, available on the back office resource CD, I think, or for free download from MS) if I need more details about the DL. Otherwise, the Directory Export tool can handle that (I export to a csv and deal with the file from Excel), and it's pretty straightforward.

I know I'm coming late into this thread, but I thought I'd add that as another option...

I am unable to get this to work. I opened the file, changed the name of the list from "TAC-DAS GROUP" as listed within the file to the name of my list. Both on W2K and W95 I get a Compile error: Can't find project or library. The code is highlighted on the word LEFT at
    If Left(oAddressList.Name, Len(gGAL)) = gGAL Then

I've passed this information along to the admins that are attempting to do the deed. Will post back with results when they are available. Thanks for the suggestion.
