Inserting Pic Into Word (Word 97)

    1. How can I insert a JPEG format picture into a Word file so that it appears in Normal view?

2 How can I insert a TIFF format picture into a Word file so that it appears in Normal view?

WHY do you want to see the picture in Normal View?
You know, it is impossible by definition...

I work in Normal View because that is normal.

Only MS would call it Normal View and then as you are saying) make it impossible to insert JPEG and TIFF pics into it.

Assuming I change my habits - what is the best way to insert JPEG and TIFF files into a Page Layout View so that they appear in the page when the page opens, without any further manipulation?

    Thanks.

Go to Insert / Picture / From File and dig out the picture you want and click on the "Insert" button. After you've saved the document, the next time you open the document it will default to the correct "View" to display the document with the picture.

"Drawing layer" images are not visible in Normal view, but "Inline" images are. This can be toggled using the Format Picture dialog.

I just remembered that this is different in Word 97. You are looking for the setting "float over text" which means "drawing layer."
