I have found some odd results when applying animation
schemes to slides with charts and Clip Art. Any insight
anyone has to explain it would be most appreciated.

If you create a presentation with multiple slides, one of
which is Chart slide, then apply an animation scheme that
uses a "body" effect to the Chart slide, the title is
animated but the chart is not. No problem here. This is
what one would expect because all text I have found
written on animation schemes in Help, Microsoft Press and
other publishers' books states that animation schemes only
animate text in placeholders.

Now, if you choose an animation scheme, then choose APPLY
TO ALL SLIDES, the animation scheme is applied to the
Slide Master - again, that is what one would expect.

Here is the issue. When the animation scheme is applied
to the Slide Master, the chart is automatically animated
with the body effect of the animation scheme. In short,
when the animation scheme is applied to the Chart slide,
the chart isn't animated, but when the animation scheme is
applied to the Slide Master, the chart is animated.

We have three different slides containing charts in our
presentation and all three charts were affected in the
same way. We tested it with different slide layouts
(e.g., Chart layout vs Title and Content layout),
different animation schemes, and different templates with
the same result. We even were able to recreate the
problem from a blank presentation with just a Title slide
and a Chart slide.

Further testing revealed that in addition to charts, any
slide with Clip Art was also affected (i.e., when the
animation scheme is applied to the slide with Clip Art,
the Clip Art is not animated, but when it is applied to
the Slide Master, the Clip Art is automatically animated
with the body effect of the scheme.) However, tables,
diagrams and pictures inserted from file that appear on
other slides are unaffected by the animation scheme
regardless of whether it is applied to just one slide or
to the Slide Master.

I have a workaround. I just click on the Master effects
in the Custom Animation task pane for the Chart slide,
then choose COPY EFFECTS TO SLIDE from the drop-down
list. Next, I can change or delete the chart animation.

But I want to know why this is happening! I'm guessing
this has something to do with the object placeholder on
the Slide Master, but I don't know why it affects charts
but not tables.
