    X & Y scatter chart (Excel 2000)

Hi, I have a non default set up (which I did not set up) in my
EXCEL 2000 XY scatter chart function. When I select 1 row for X and 1 row for Y (placed in consecutive rows) the chart obtained does not take into account the X values. The same data imported on to another PC will produce the same error BUT if the data are entered by hand on the other PC then the chart will take into account the X values.

It sounds like the values in the cells for X were entered as Text not Numeric values. If that is the case, then they can be converted to numeric by doing:

1- Select all of the cells containing the X values and format the cells as General or as a number format.

2- Find an empty cell anywhere on the sheet that is not formatted as text and enter a 1 into it.

3- Select the cell containing the 1 and copy it using Copy from the Edit menu.

4- Select all of the cells containing the X values.

5- From the Edit menu select Paste Special.

6- In the Paste Special dialog box, in the Operation section click on Multiply.

7- Click on the OK button.

The values should now be numeric.
