    Word (2000)

I have had a request which I think is impossible but I may as well try. When using numbered heading styles is it possible to colour subsequent headings of the same level differently. For example have number 1 red number 2 blue and so on. I'm not holding my breath.

    Thanks

    Mike

You dont have to hold your breath any longer. There is a way! Go to format, styles, and locate Heading 1 style (select it). Click MODIFY, click FORMAT, select font and WHALA! Now all you have to do is change the color, click OK, OK and then choose the next heading and redo the steps above.

    Mike,

Not sure if I understand tdoll's suggestion, but if you're trying to get just the autonumber itself to be different colors for different paragraphs, then you're going to be out of luck.

I think the suggestion was that the numbering defined in the Heading style picks up the font color of that style. And so it appears to do:

    Hi,

    I totally agree with that observation (and illustration <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>) - if that's what's being asked.
What I was thinking was being asked was: is it possible to have the numbering attached to Heading 1 be blue in one paragraph, but red in the next (Heading 1) paragraph - that wouldn't be possible to do.

BTW the autonumber by default will pick up the font color of the associated style, but can be defined to be something different in the Font dialog associated with the Bullets & Numbering > Customize dialog - see attached.

Oh yes, there it is in the original post, "headings... of the same level." I think we unanimously have no way to do that.
