Mail Merge using Excel database (2000)

<img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16> Hi - I've attached my Excel document which I'm planning to use as a database in a Word document. The plan is to tell word to look at the database and, for example, if the first employee named in Column A has an "x" in Column F1 then return the value of F2 to the word document - then look at the next column in the same row to see if there's an X in that cell - if there is, return the value of G2 to the word document, etc.

Possible? If it is, how the heck do I do it!!

Thanks in advance to all you smarter-than-me people out there in cyberland.

    Linda

Oops - should also attached the basic word mail merge letter!!

Here's one way. In the Open Data Source... dialog click the MS Query... button, then choose Excel, open your file, list the fields you want to retrieve and the field you want to test, then create a filter so that only X rows are retrieved. Note: On the last screen, where you tell MS Query to return the data to Word, click the Save button and save your query, otherwise, Word might not know the proper criteria for the query the next time you open the document (but this is a guess).

I tested on one document, and had no troubles. There may be other ways to do this, in fact, I'm certain there probably are, but this was reasonably quick.
