    CommandBar Humility (Word 97SR2)

    See this line:

    .Protection = msoBarNoCustomize

    Why did I put that line in the Commandbar code in my global template?

    Beats me. I guess I didn't want users to modify the app customized toolbars. Of course, I couldn't either. All the bizarre behavior you read about right here on Woody's Lounge was the result of that statement peppered throughout my code.

    Thanks Chris, Andrew, Sammy, Jeff and anyone else who had mercy on me.

    Thanks for the feedback. You look good in sackcloth and ashes; anyway, I just did a search and I don't see where ANYONE voted on mercy for you ........

    What you really need is a mechanism that not only protects the doo-dad, whatever it be, but that detects the protection and pops up a MsgBox saying "Get down, you're too high, you're not supposed to be up here". Then you'd know to undo protection.

    No wait!

    Now that I've had a nap, a much simpler solution presents itself:

    Why don't you just edit your User profile on the Lounge to read "Kevin Padlock"?

    Re: CommandBar Humility (Word 97SR2)

    I had written unprocted and protect functions which I was calling before and after the Commandbar stuff. I disabled the protect call, so I assumed no protection was in force. I KNEW I had protected the toolbars, but also KNEW I had disabled the protection. What I did not KNOW was I had extemporaneous miscellania left over from the early days.

    I did learn a lot about toolbars, though -- more than I knew before.
