    Settings (IE 5.5)

Ok-can someone tell me how to get rid of this IE 5.5 and put IE 5.0 on my pc? It won't retain my settings, screws up my settings in Outlook and IMO it's a piece of trash....

    Sorry I'm frustrated...

This is a link for IE 5.01 SP2, I have IE 5.5 and it won't let me install this update because it doesn't apply to me.

Thanks for your patience.... This is driving me crazy, it's rare that I can't figure something out and now it's two things at one time!

The only thing I can remove from add/remove is the SP1 that I installed. I will try a search, although my luck in the past has never been good on this forum.

    Thanks again <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

<P ID="edit" class=small>Edited by jscher2000 on 25-Jan-02 23:22.</P>Try to uninstall 5.5 first. My Add/Remove Programs control panel lists "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2" (Windows 2000). If it's not obvious on your system, try a search of this board. Uninstalling various versions of IE has come up several times. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Oops, wait!

You need to download the "stub" program first, or you'll be completely browserless. Did that part work at least? You will need to disregard the instruction to run it from the Internet and instead save it on your computer.

    Maybe you should try your luck with IE 6! <img src=/S/rofl.gif border=0 alt=rofl width=15 height=15>

You ARE funny!!! Been there, done that, have the Tee-shirt to prove it! Talk about nightmares...

I don't know what's going on, for some reason, I'm thinking this could be an issue with Outlook. Even when I try to create an HTML E-mail, I have no option to edit the font. Any hilarious suggestions for that? LOL

That lizard or whatever is making me paranoid...thought I was seeing things.

    Hi
Re-install XP over the top of the current installation. This will take IE back to the version shipped with the CD. Then get IE6 from CD or MS Updates and install it.

    Re: Settings (IE 5.5)

I have WinME, and it installed with it. The last time I installed IE6, it completely hosed my system. What I'd like to have is IE 5.01 again, do you think there's a chance of that happening?

    Re: Settings (IE 5.5)

    Hi
Sorry, I missed a point somewhere. I hadn't realised you were running ME (or 98SE for that matter). For both those OSs I would not advise trying IE6. There have been problems, shall we say?
If you install ME over your current OS (ie. in the same folder) it will take you back to the version of IE that shipped with your CD. (I've never run ME - and not being flippant - if I were you, from what I've seen and heard, I'd ditch it).
Once there, you can apply the necessary security patches. I would not suggest you run IE with its security gaps unplugged.

    Rgds

    Re: Settings (IE 5.5)

Thanks for your reply. The lizard is snoozing today.

ME is what shipped with my pc, and although I'm not particularly fond of it, I've not had any problems running it.

I fixed the way my E-mail viewed HTML E-mails (I know their settings are browser dependent) It was a user-defined issue. So I'll patch and go on I guess. Since I've found no way to downgrade IE 5.5

Again, thanks for your reply (and you didn't sound flippant at all)
