can't change COM port
I just installed W2k on my sister's computer and she uses AOL so in the process of installing it and testing it, I find that I can't dial out. Her modem is supposedly set to COM1 but I get errors when trying to dial out. I have gone into Control Panel - hardware wizard and it only shows COM1 and says it's working properly. I do have a phone cord between PC and phone. I can not find where to go to tell it to use another COM port. This used to be easy in other OS's but I can't find it in W2k. In the 'troubleshooter' it says that Windows lists the COM ports that it sees and if yours isn't listed then there is a hardware error. All computers come with at least two COM ports so this doesn't make sense to me. (I have DSL so it's been a while since I had to mess with COM ports and modems).
I checked 'properties' in Phone and Modem Options but it doesn't let me change the COM port.
I just checked the registry and it only shows COM1 (in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, DEVICEMAP, SERIALCOMM) so does that mean this PC only has one COM port? Very strange. It has a mouse of course and that uses a COM/serial port of course. Could it be that both mouse and modem are using same COM port but different interrupts?
