Windows XP Pro

I recently installed Windows XP Pro on one of my computers with excellent results and have had very few problems UNTIL---My wife wanted to install a copy on her computer which was new. We did a clean install . Setup appeared normal as did the installation but nothng seems to work properly. The welcome screen does not function, also the task bar . I get no error indications, but nothing works properly . Any Ideas?

More details, please. If her computer is "new", is it on Windows XP Compatibility List ?

Did you go through "activation" process ?

Did you try to reformat hard drive and install once again from scratches ?

The first thing I would try is booting with the CD, and running the repair process. Let it check everything. You might also consider a thorough scandisk, if it's a FAT32 partition, or running CHKDSK /R if you can get to the Recovery Console (also available when booting from CD).

If the CD is not bootable, you can download the XP boot floppy setup program, which takes six disks and an eternity to load, but it's a means to an end.
