    Read Receipt Requested (Outlook 98)

I've found a reference to an Outlook 98 add-in or form that generates a notice when a read-receipt has been requested by a sender, similar to the function available in Outlook 2000. Unfortunately, the link that was provided no longer works. Does anyone know where I can locate this for Outlook 98?

    Thanks,

    Caroline

I feel silly asking this, but where is that function available in 2000? The option I see is grayed out--does that functionality need to be enabled somewhere?

it's available only for internet mail, not exchange server. you can add the RR field so you can see who is requesting them - look through the field chooser for Reciept Requested.

Re: Read Receipt Requested (Outlook 98)

Ah...thanks. But here's another question--is there a way to tell if the person requested a delivery request v. a read request? And, if I synchronize the inbox offline, and then read the message offline, does the read request response go into my Outbox, where I could then delete it (if I were so inclined)?

It just bothers me on all sorts of levels to have someone notified when I receive or read mail...

    Thanks. klyjen

It's been awhile since i looked into it, but i don't think it shows which from that field - plus it's up to the server to respond to delivery receipts - they are returned before you get the mail and totally beyond your control.

on the ost Q - the receipts are hidden messages in the root folder. You'd need Outlook Spy to delete them.

An easier solution exists - WYB, <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.grinningshark.com>http://www.grinningshark.com</A>. It'll block or spam receipts as well as block HTML. (I think it stops the dialer problem others asked about recently.)

Interesting; I played with this, and the "receipt requested" field only shows a "Yes" value when a read receipt is requested--a delivery receipt does not lead to a positive value in that field.

I'll check out the link; thanks for the info.

I sent myself a message from Outlook 2000 and saw two fields in the header:

    Return-Receipt-To: "Jefferson Scher" <UserName@domain.com>

    Disposition-Notification-To: "Jefferson Scher" <UserName@domain.com>

I'm not sure which is which, but with a little experimentation...

disposition is server side, return receipt is client side and that is what can be controlled.
