Am I crazy? or what? (PowerPoint XP)

I KNOW I have attended presentations in the recent past where the presenter was using Power Point and the slides had an animated background (ribbons waving, clouds floating, etc). I was always told they they were using a more advanced version of Power Point... now that I have PowerPoint XP, why can't I figure out how to do it?

I know that some people may ask "why bother" since it may not contribute to the presentation. Well, simply because I think it's cool and I want to do it. I just wish I was bright enough to figure it out. I have applied many different design templates but I see no animation... is there something special I need to do other than look at the slide in a slideshow? I am not talking about inserting animation within a slide or the transition effects as I move from one slide to another. Simply the background that shows up on each slide.

Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance

Even in pp2K, just use an animated gif as a background, but I wish you wouldn't. Drives us old folks crazy! --Sam (taking off his glasses, so he can't watch)

In the "Ribbons" (I believe) template in '97 there is one element 'behind' some other objects that make it look like the ribbon is moving. It is a wipe right. I attached a very simplified example. Is that what you mean?
PS. there was a macro attached to this that finds the file path. I tried to delete it, don't know if I did or not.

Where's the beef? IE no macro, no attachment!

Sorry I tried to attach the PPT file, but cannot. I've sent a message to the lounge admin.

Here's a sample. I almost like it, but I needed to use a bigger gif. Note, I had to zip it: Lounge does not permit .ppt attachments, as Grant discovered. I changed the background:
1) Click Background on the Format menu.
2) Under Background fill, click the down arrow, click Fill Effects, and then click the Picture tab.
3) Click Select Picture, find the folder that contains the picture you want, double-click the file name, and then click OK.
4) To apply the change to the current slide, click Apply. To apply the change to all slides, click Apply to All.

The only drawback with the Ribbons style animation is that your text builds wouldn't start until the Ribbon animation had finished. It can really slow down a presentation. It would be cool if XP didn't do that.

but I'm not testing XP 'til next week...

I had meant to mention that in my first post, but forgot the point. I'd say it KILLS most presentations! The first slide or two is ok, or on subsequent title slides maybe. But puting it on the master IMHO an NO-NO.
