    Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

Okay, I continue to get Illegal Errors when I log into my IE. I have reloaded Win 98 and it takes care of it temporarily, then it returns. I am tired of having this on my screen while working on the internet. Any suggestions? MS Support is of no help.

    Re: Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

    It was an Iexplore error:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

    Re: Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

I get those messages everytime I try to close IE5.5 or IE6.0. The message details also say that IEXPLORE has caused a general page fault in module user.exe.

I have to restart the PC in order to do anything else.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I've unloaded and reloaded 6.0 a couple of times but no difference in behavior.

Re: More on Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

To add to my prvious post, it is a "general protection fault" not a page fault. The PC lock up and only a push on the reset button or the double ACD does the trick.

    Re: Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

I get the error everytime I open up IE 5.5 or 6.0 This is so frustrating. I have reloaded it several times. There needs to be fix for it or they shouldn't have it!

    Re: Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

I agree. I think I did everything that I could find on the MS site regarding the error, all to no avail. Obviously there is a conflict somewhere, I just don't know where to look for it.

    hi
What Virus Scanner is running in the background? Come to think of it, what programs are running in the background? Starting with the VS, turn them off one by one until the error mesage no longer appears. This will identify the culprit (if there is one). Use MSCONFIG from Start/Run if need be.

    Re: Illegal Error (IE 5.5)

Thanks for the suggestion. Disabled all of the proggies in the background save for those that are necessary. No change. Still the error message.

Just for the record, running e-Trust suite, Firewall, VS, et al.
