    double line (off 2000)

In making up a word doc by pasting stuff. All at once I get some double lines appearing across the page.
I can't seem to delete them and they move down with each CR. They show up in the printed copy. It looks like a double underline. How do they get there and how do I remove them.

are you able to post a copy of the document, sanitised if necessary, for us to look at??? Sometimes it helps to be able to see the actual problem.

Put your insertion point in the paragraph with the lines, and choose Format, Borders to see if the lines are borders. In the lower right, make sure Apply to says Paragraph.

    Re: double line (off 2000)

I have had the same problem with documents where I paste in formatted text from a document eg CTL A, CTL C, CTL N CTL V. The text appears in a different collour with a double underline. I have discovered this is due to the text I have inserted coming originally from a document that was compared in a third party software comparasion tool. Once compared and save as a Word document the changes cannot be accepted using Track changes in Word. The only way (to date) I can get around the problem is to select the text and use the keyboard shortcut CTL SPACEBAR, this removes the formatting but also removes other formatting e.g BOLD elsewhere in the document. Not a perfect solution but it may help.

When pasting, try Edt, Paste special, and select "unformatted text".

I don't know what the protocol is when the problem is solved. So a thank you is in order. At any rate I did get rid of the double line by following advice posted here. Thanks everyone. I also discovered in the process that recovered files that appeared on my list of files could not be deleted but can be resaved under a different name and if the recovered files are "greyed" out then they can be draged to the trash bin.

    Re: double line (off 2000)

Yes how dumb of me. Not to mention how I solved the problem.
It was a simple matter of checking all the formatting to discover the double line was due to an over looked paragraph format item. I knew about formatting but didn't tumble to the fact it may have been formatting because I had not set it that way to begin with. I guess sometimes default formatting turns up some strange results. I completely forgot that Word formatting works basically on the paragraph. I also forget that when you copy something the results do not always come out how you think it should. Only how the rules say it should.

You should be able to toggle the underlining on and off with Ctrl+Shift+D (double-underline formatting). However, if the formatting is funky in many ways, Ctrl+Spacebar is easiest.
