    Flickering Monitor

I bought a new computer 1 month ago.

I am running WIndows XP (home) with a ATI video card c/w 32MB RAM. The resolution of my monitor is 1154x768??. with 24 bit colour.

It is 19", flat screen, 955DF Samsung monitor. It flickers in a band on the right and left hand side. I tried changing the resolution lower but it has no effect. I moved my speakers away from the monitor and it still flickers. I also degauss it and no effect. I got a new monitor and it still flickers.

    Can anyone help me

    Re: Flickering Monitor

Firstly, I don't know much about flat panels, but here's a few suggestions:

    - Have you tried changing the refresh rate of the video card? Somewhere around 75 - 85Hz is best.
    - Try a 16-bit colour depth, same resolution.
    - Are you using XP drivers for the ATi card?
    - Have you checked the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.microsoft.com/hcl>MS Hardware Compatibility List</A> to ensure the card is XP compatible?

If none of these has any effect, return your machine to the supplier. I don't advise you open the case and re-seat the video card, as this may invalidate your warranty.

    Questions:
    - Have you changed the specification of the machine since you bought it?
    - Have you upgraded the O/S, for example from W2K to XP since buying it?
    - Did it ever work properly, like when it was on display in the shop?

    Re: Flickering Monitor

Resolution does not sound quite right.
    Desktop > Properties > Settings
and look for a 'List all modes' setting - I think this will only list 'acceptable' modes (though I may be wrong on this).

I suspect either an incorrect / unsupported refresh rate or resolution.

Check out this <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.samsungmonitor.com/html/products/955df.htm>Samsung</A> page for up-to-date drivers and other info.

    Re: Flickering Monitor

Thanks for the help. I finally got time and looked at the refresh rate. It was 70Mhz, I changed to 85 MHZ and it looked like it solved the problem.

    I'll check tonight again.
