Disable Task Panes (Office XP)

Does anyone know how to disable the task panes and return to dialog boxes? I have looked in the options and can only disable the startup task pane, but not the others.

To my knowledge, there is no gobal option to diable task panes. You may want to check out this article from Microsoft's website. It looks as though you can use the View menu to hide task panes, but as for its permanence, I can say - I have played with it a tad but not enough. If you clear the "Show at startup" checkbox, I believe it prevents other task panes from appearing as well.

look in the office resource kit - you can disable the task bar completely. it's online at microsoft's web site.

you can access the dialogs even with the task pane available though.

Mary, where is the article at Microsoft located? I didn't run across it in my travails across the net this afternoon.

no, the others will show if they are called - like copying to the clipboard.

i was looking in the ork for something else and happened on the task pane one somehow but couldn't find it again yesterday. the history is on a differnet computer - i'll try to remember to check it when i'm at that system later. i thought about copying the page, because i have a user who fusses about the task panes but then i decided no, he can learn to like the task pane.
