    Date Insertion w/ Shift+Alt+D (Word 2000)

When demonstrating the use of Shift+Alt+D to insert the current date into a document, it is inserted as a field. Another user, using Word 2000 and Windows 98 also, did the same thing and got the current date, but it was not inserted as a field. Can someone explain why the difference in the two machines? Is there an option that would cause this to change? I'm stumped! TIA

Possibly they are coming in as fields, but the "show field shading" option is turned off on those other machines?: check in Tools > Options > View, and look for the field shading dropdown.
Another way to check: click an insertion point somewhere within the date, and then right-click. Does the shortcut menu have Update Field and Toggle Field Code options?

    Gary,
Yes, that did the trick. Thank you. This option showed up with SR-1.
