password to open doc - bypass in lotus notes (W97 sr2a)

    HIya

In ms-word, a user has applied a password to a word doc either to open or modify word doc.
Our email system is lotus notes.
When we attach password protected word doc into lotus notes & email out.
Within lotus notes email - for attachments
    the facilities are:
    1. view file - when selected allows you to view file, similiar view as in acrobat reader.
    2. Detach - when selected allows you to detach to your hard drive.
therefore the file is opened via word & displays the password dialog box to enter password to open file.
    3. Launch - when you select launch - fires up the relevant application & then opens file.

Has anyone experienced this or come across this?
Is there any information about this?
    thanks in advance - Diana

So you're saying that the password doesn't prevent the viewer from displaying the guts of the file? We were just discussing viewers in another thread. We use the INSO viewers and they give an error that the file is password protected or encrypted. What viewer are you using

HIya - I tested your word attachment
& placed the file as an attachment in lotus notes
    when I went selected view

    the result was
    message displayed:
    Lotus notes desktop
THe file is password protected or encrypted.

The password you placed on this file - was it password to just open file?

I think it might be both open and modify; in both cases the password was weak. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>
