No Detect and Repair after SR2? (Office 2000 SR1 'Security Release')

I installed Office 2000 SR1 then applied SR2. Now I cannot do a detect and repair. I get the message: "The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package ixists and that you can access it..." This is on a clean install of Windows 2000 Pro. I have installed some 3rd party software after Office so I cann't garuantee that it's SP2 guilty.

The reason I wanted to run D&R is this oddity: In Windows Explorer files all show their proper icons: .doc files show Word, .xls files show Xcel. However, when opening a file from Office (Word or Excel) all of the office type files show a generic icon. Weird or what?

    Any help is truly appreciated.

    The workaround is:

Copy your Office 2000 Installation CD to a separate folder on your hard drive.
When Installer prompts you for installation (.msi) file, point it to that location.
After the process completes, you can delete that folder.
