    header.htm in Outlook 2002

Hi: Since I installed XP PRO, whenever I send emails from Outlook 2002, there is what appears to be an attached file called header.htm. Now, I did not send this file, it just appeared in the email that I sent.

when the receiver of the email opens the file, it is empty. A scan was done on the file and it said the file was ok and not some sort of virus.

I did a search on my hard drive to see if I had this file. I found it located in the following directory:

Cocuments and SettingsNanLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesOLKAheader.htm

    What is OLKA?

I have no idea where this file is coming from. it seems to re-build itself, as i found this file once before and deleted it from my hard drive. It appears that whenever i send an email people are getting this file.

Any ideas? this is a complete mystery to me, especially since i keep deleting the file from my hard drive!

Have you applied <A target="_blank" HREF=http://download.microsoft.com/download/officexpstandard/sp/oxpsp1/w98nt42kmexp/en-us/oxpsp1a.exe>Service Pack 1 for Office XP</A> yet? You may also want to run the repair option from the help menu.

OLKA is the temporary folder that Outlook creates and uses. It sounds like there is an issue with OL creating the HTML formatted message prior to sending.

    Hi Mark:
I have the upgrade but haven't installed it yet. I have ZoneAlarm and have to first uninstall that, install the update, then re-install ZoneAlarm. At least, that is what I've been reading.

At least now i know what OKLA is. As soon as I do the upgrade i will see if it still happens.
    thanks!

OLKA is a secure temp folder - you can move it anywhere with a registry hack

are you using word as the editor? is html or plain text your default format? This is a common problem, often caused by word settings.

RE ZoneAlarm, I simply shut it down, did my Service Pack, and then restarted it. Your mileage may vary, of course. Offhand I don't know which version fo ZA I have on that machine, but it is the latest available, whatever that may be. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

GREAT! I have been putting off the install of the SP because of the hassle of the uninstall and reinstall. GEE! good to hear that it worked the way you did it.

I will do the SP install today!!!! thanks again for getting back to me

there is a known issue with ZA and OL2002 that prevents outlook from collecting mail. it's better to shut it off and turn it back on.

    Re: header.htm in Outlook 2002

    Hi Mark:
Ok. I installed the SP-1 for Office yesterday. all went well.

today i sent an email to a group of people, telling them that the problem should be solved, that the Header.htm file should no longer show up. Well, everyone in the group replied and said that the header.htm file comes to them with every email that i send, and they are still getting it, even after installing the SP.

I did another search on my hard drive, and THIS time i found the file NOT in outlook, but in FrontPage at the following address:
    C:FrontPage2002Templates1033Framesheader.temHEADER .HTM

How can this be? do you have any other suggestions? By the way, this only started since i loaded XP. (new install on an formatted Hard drive) Any help would be appreciated. THanks! <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>

    Re: header.htm in Outlook 2002

are you using stationery? Does it get added if you use outlook's editor? it's something with the template wordmail uses - rename normal.dot and see if it helps.

some mail systems don;t understand some code in wordmail and drop some tnef information - it's possible your mail server is doing it, so the header.htm is attached, not inline. i don't think this is the cause in this case though.

the FP header is not getting added - the one in secure temp was not getting added - it was put in secure temp when you opened it to look at it.

No. Not using stationary. I don't know what Outlook's editor is. What is it?

what the heck does the following statement mean????

the FP header is not getting added - the one in secure temp was not getting added - it was put in secure temp when you opened it to look at it.

what is secure temp? when i opened WHAT to look at WHAT?

I would appreciate it if you could be a little more specific, as i'm a little confused and need a little more detail. thanks

    Re: header.htm in Outlook 2002

the OL-whatever folder you found the header file in called the secure temp folder. Outlook puts attachments *you* open into it. Outlook *does not* take files from there and put them on outgoing mail. FrontPage (FP) does not add files to your outgoing mail either, so the header file you found in the FrontPage folder is not getting put on your mail. The header.htm files you found on your drive are not getting added to your outgoing mail. Period.

The easiest way to stop the problems is to go to Tools | Options | Mail format, disable Word as the editor or turn off html. The header file will not be added to your messages if you do one of those things. (or both)
