Linksys router and mIRC

Just got my Cable hooked up to my two networked machines (XP and Win 98SE). Everything is working just fine in all respects. Got rid of ZA Pro as the router has a builtin firewall and enabled the XP firewall. But connecting to mIRC is a big troublesome. It connects, but there is about a 20 second delay before it does. In the Linksys Manual there is mention of mIRC, which says:

How do I get mIRC to work with the Router?: Under the Fowarding tab, set port forwarding to 113 for the PC on which you are using mIRC.

I went online to the Linksys admin dialog and to the Advanced/Forwarding section but can't figure out how to add Port 113 and/or where in there. Is there anyone who has done this that can help me do this? I am assuming that this will cure the long delay that occurs when trying to connect to the mIRC server?

    Re: Linksys router and mIRC

Hi, to set port forwarding on a Linksys router go to the set-up page then click on the advance tab. Then click on the forwarding tab. Where you see service port range put 113 in both boxes. Set the Protocol box to both. Then under the Ip Adresses put the complete IP address for the computer you want to access that port. If more then one computer then go to the second line and do the same as above. On the right side you will see some common port listing if you need any of thoses add them the same way. Then click apply and that should solve your problem.

"Got rid of ZA Pro as the router has a builtin firewall and enabled the XP firewall" Do yourself favor and turn OFF the MS Firewall and put ZoneAlarm on. The version works just great with XP. Also your router will block incoming but NOT the out going .

    Get version 2.6.362

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Linksys router and mIRC

Thanks guys! I have implemented the recommendations you have given, but it didn't make any differenc in the amount of time it takes to connect to the IRC server I typically use. I decided to try and connect to a totally different server, e.g., Undernet in my own locale and couldn't do it. In fact no matter which location I chose for Undernet, I got the very same message, "Can't resolve server". Now mind you, I used to access these servers without a problem before I installed the Router??

    Any more wisdom to share?
