    Unread count inaccurate (Outlook 2000 SR-1 9.0.0.5414)

The Outlook shortcut bar indicates one (1) unread message in the Inbox, but all messages are read. There are no unread messages. No filters are in place; changing views has no affect; switching to Calendar and back to Inbox has no affect.
    Any ideas?

Are you sure, I have had to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and I have found a old message or 2 <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Anyone written to "mswish" asking why it's not possible to sort on the "read" field - or is this one of the New World Wonders awaiting us in Office XP?

either use find to search for unread messages or use a view to show only unread messages. you can also sort by the icon.

also, if you are using exchange server, it happens occassionally and indicates a router prroblem.

I am still getting the same "You cannot sort by this field" message I got I tested before I posted for the "Read" field. The "Icon" field does not sort. (CW 2000 SR-1). What gives - or is this an IMO feature?

no, they should sort in all versions and modes. not all sort properly though - depending on where i read the message (OWA, IMAP or OL), they aren't sorted in Ol2002, but replies and forwards do sort.

I know that it's possible to have unread replies and forwards, but it seems that an unreliable sort (of incoming unread messages) runs a very close second to having no sort at all. For the record, OWA doesn't appear to sort on unread either. We run IMO in the office (????!!!!!!) and that also doesn't sort on unread. From memory, it may be an IMAP only feature - but that was where I worked previously.

I do like to take a positive approach to situations. It does baffle me, however, how what is a fairly basic usability feature has somehow managed to elude all the focus groups that MS has tested on over the past 6-7 years. (Either that, or the core code must be a real brain-bender, or it's being held back as feature for the .NET version!)

MaryJ--many thanks. Probably due to Exchange. Do you have any suggestions where I might go for information on the router problem?

DaveA--positive; all are read. MaryJ suggests an Exchange related problem. Thanks for the input
