    Ctrl+Tab like Excel (Office 97 (+?))

    This came up while using Office 97, but I expect applies to other versions. As a serious Excel user, I enjoy the Ctrl+Tab (and Ctrl+Shift+Tab) shortcut to switch between open windows, but cannot duplicate this in Word. I have done some VBA in Excel, but ignorance of Word (and other shortcomings <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> have prevented me from getting anywhere. Anyone figured a way to enable this shortcut in Word? Thanks

    When you create or open a document in Word, the document opens in a separate window. You can quickly switch from one document to another by clicking the document's button on the taskbar or by pressing ALT+TAB. You can also view several open Word documents at the same time by using the Arrange All command (Window menu).

    Perhaps I am missing something. In Office 97 (and I think in Office XP), Word does not open a new window, so Alt+Tab doesn't work. At least not for me....

    Nope...you're not missing anything. The guidance I provided is for Word 2000. Sorry. I'll try to reprieve myself...!

    Try Ctrl+F6.

    Works like a charm. Thanks!

    But that inspires a further question (blame Woody, a recent bit in a watch about changinc funciton of insert key inspired this): Is there VBA code to make it so ctrl+tab works in Word like it does in Excel? You know, actually ahve same command do same thing in both programs <gasp>?

    Well, normally you would use Tools, Customize..., Keyboard..., but it does not appear to allow you to muck with the Tab key combinations. So you have to run a little macro:

    <pre>Sub CtrlTabNextWindow()
    ' Where to save? Pick one:
    CustomizationContext = NormalTemplate
    'CustomizationContext = ActiveDocument.AttachedTemplate
    ' Assign Ctrl+Tab to NextWindow command
    KeyBindings.Add KeyCode:=BuildKeyCode(wdKeyTab, wdKeyControl), _
    KeyCategory:=wdKeyCategoryCommand, Command:="NextWindow"
    End Sub</pre>

    I tested this in Word 2000.

    Works like a charm in Word 97 too. Now I have ctrl+f6 option and the code. I love options. Many thanks to all!

    Ctrl + F6 works equally well in WORD 97 and Excel 97
    I use it all the time in both. The simpler the better. Why bother with codes?

    two bad reasons:
    1. I developed the habit of ctrl+tab in excel, and it is too hard to break
    2. I can do Ctrl+Tab with one hand.

    Fine, but you lose the CtrlTab functionality for inserting Tab characters inside a table.
