software to allow MailMerges emailed (Word97 sr2a)

HIya - I wonder if anyone has come across the following issue:

A user mentioned that previously where she worked
that in Word - she preformed a Mailmerge(usually a letter document)
& when the merge completed - she could email each individual letter to the specific user.
Normally it would be a manual process of creating a new letter & cut & paste each letter from the mailmerge & then emailing to user.

Is there such a software that allows you to do is?
ie for each letter created in a mailmerge - email specific letter to user.
or do you think this operation was performed by code.
    Thanks in advance - Diana

This is a regular feature of Mail Merge since Word97. If you use the mail merge helper, in step 3 where you can set query parameters and the number of records to merge, there is an option to choose to merge to email. When you do that you can then set the subject line and specify the cell (Word or Excel) or field (Access) that contains the email address. You can also personalize just as you would with a letter. No code needs to be involved unless you want to use OLE Automation and initiate the merge from another application such as Access. Hope this helps.
