    OPEN DOCUMENTS (Word 2000)

I have a bit of a problem. When I open a document from a list of files I created in WP 2000, then return to the list to open a second document the first document is still listed but also appears with a different name ~$file name.

    Thank you,

The second one is actually a temp file indicating that the real file is open. If you open the temp file, you'll see it contains your username. It's a mechanism that allows Word to tell you who has a file open in a shared folder environment.

Try opening that file from another PC on your LAN and see happens.

Other reasons for the temp file may exist. Others will post...

If you leave the default Windows setting to hide hidden files from yourself, the problem will go away. However, that can create other problems, like whole folders not being visible.

If you want to suppress the temp file from appearing in your list/dialog, we might be able to help if you tell us more about how is the list is being generated.
