    hyperlinks (O2k)

hey- i'm making a picture log in 'Tables' w/ hyperlinks. i'll write a description then link the description to the JPG. the last time i did this was in O98 & i remember sumthin' about absolute vs relative location. i want 'relative' so i can zip up the folder & e-mail it around. i tried the "Properties/Summary/Hyperlink Base" route but w/o success. (i used "Photos" as the base folder entry.)

    thanx.

Hello Mr. Molina! Welcome to the Lounge. I'm afraid that's not possible using the Hyperlink field.

    A this thread.

    Good luck, and Happy Lounging!

I have found just the opposite. If you choose Ctrl+K (Insert/Hyperlink), a dialog box opens. If you browse for a file, Word will insert a relative hyperlink, not an absolute one, so long as you have already saved the target document. Have you tried that?

In fact, I have only recently found a convenient way to insert an absolute hyperlink. The way I do that now is I've downloaded & installed Power Toys from Microsoft (don't have the link handy). Among other things, this puts an option on the context menu to "SendTo Clipboard as Name". This option works in the Insert/Hyperlink dialog box when you browse for a file. Then, you can copy it in the "type the file or web page name" box.

    Cool! I stand corrected. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> Should have read the search results a bit better.

    Thanks, Phil!

interesting...it looks like if you "Save" the document first, you'll get 'relative' links. yesterday, i think i started setting up the links before saving & got 'absolute'.

to get absolute, go to "File/Properties/Hyperlink Base" & enter, in my case, a folder. it went to that folder for my pics. at least it did 10 minutes ago....as for tomorrow...

Hmmm. After awhile, one gets confused <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> (I'm referring to me). It seems to me that if you:
    1. Save a document,
    2. Put in a hyperlink base, and then
    3. Insert a hyperlink,

you still get a relative hyperlink. However, it is now relative to your hyperlink base, NOT to where your target document is saved.

    Hope this helps (both of us) <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
