Have you enabled scripting in your security setup?
Are you trying to force the smilies to open in a separate window? If so, don't! It will open a new window automatically and trying to 'Open in new window' will cause an error.

Assuming the set-up is the same as IE5:

Tools > Internet Options > Security
    Click Internet
    Click Custom Level
Set Active Scripting to prompt (to leave you in control)

    Do the Smilies show now?

    If so:

Tools > Internet Options > Security
    Click Trusted Sites
    Add "www.wopr.com"
    OK
    Click Custom
    Enable Scripting.

My setting for this under 'trusted zone' is set to 'low'...is your security setting for 'trusted' set to 'high'? maybe that is the problem????

Can you give us a sample URL to visit where you have the problem?

Where do you get hung up? Step one is that the Lounge uses a JavaScript function to pop open a window. Does that part work? In that window is this page. Will that load when you link directly?

Do you have any ad-blocking software or other software that watches for new windows? Or any browsing add-ons or utilities running?

If not, you might want to reinstall IE; it sounds as though it is in need of repair if it can't even keep a new window open.
