    W97 Corrupted Footers (Word 97 sr2)

I have a problem with the odd page footers becoming mangled when a document with three or more pages is saved. All formatting in the footer appears to be lost, some information from the odd page header is duplicated into the footer.
If nothing is done and the document is saved immediately then on re-opening the doc everything is back to normal, until the document is renamed.
At this point the docs footer becomes permanently corrupted, likewise if the footer is opened or any attempt is made at reformatting the odd footer.
Apart from that these templates act as normal. Can anyone shed some light on what is going on.
WOrd versions used are W97 SR1/SR2 and XP

Is this a problem with a single document?

Or, are we talking about multiple documents from a single template?

Or, are we talking about how Word behaves in general?

For document corruption, you might want to take a look at the tutorial: Document Corruption (addbalance.com/usersguide/document_corruption.htm)

    Re: W97 Corrupted Footers (Word 97 sr2)

Thanks for your answer. In this case I'm talking about documents produced by 20+ Word templates.

They were originally W97 templates but where opened in Word XP. Word XP's Options had been set
to be compatible with 97 and no major code/macros/modifications where made.

These docs footers only become permanently corrupted IF the Header/Footer is opened, or the file is renamed.

I am at a loss to even guess at whats occuring, but it appears to involve Words Save function and the exact shifts/result
    depends on whether you're using SR1 or SR2. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

    The fix I've discovered is to create a different first page. <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>
I'd really really like to know whats happened and how to fix this problem short of rebuilding all our templates.

SR1 - SR2 - in W97? Definitely want to get all your machines to SR2, there are major bug fixes there. Also what is known as the "leap year fix" should be installed (a/k/a SR3).

BTW, the main formatting for the footer should be in the Footer style.
