    Non-PCI Network Adapters?

Are there such beasts as NIC's that are not "PCI"? Are there USB-connected NIC's -- or other methods? Thanks.

    Yes - 3Com, for example, do USB NIC's: 3Com

Thanks. I also heard that in the 'old days' there was something called "ISA" or "PnP ISA" types of NIC's. Are there any others?

Sorry - I was thinking you were trying to avoid a card altogether...

Yes - ISA cards are still available, though I think they may well be on their way out. Certainly D-Link ISA NIC's are still available - in this country anyway.

You could check out EBay or other such online sites for an ISA NIC... we have a TON of 3Com ISA's here... they work nicely on a 10 Meg network.

Thanks, guys. How about SCSI? Is it possible to have a SCSI NIC? Then, someone mentioned "Micro Channel". Is that an option also?

    Re: Non-PCI Network Adapters?

Google is providing all the answers:

"scsi nic" brings up http://www.encoreshop.com/mbd-n440bx-oem.html - a snip at $299
    and
"micro channel nic" brings up http://www.kmj.com/nic.html - which seems to give a good overview of all available types.
