    Copying drawing objects (Word 2000)

Is there a way to copy and paste drawings objects (i.e., text boxes, lines, arrows, etc.)? It would be nice not to have to create each box from scratch, especially when I need several with identical sizes and formats. Thanks.

    Hi Russ,

Why yes, you can copy and paste all of these.
It can also save a lot of time to select a curve/shape/box you have formatted, right-click on it, and choose "Set AutoShape defaults" (You can also find this setting at the bottom if you click on "Drawing" in the drawing toolbar). From now on, new shapes you create will use the same settings.

    Russ,

In addition to Klaus's good suggestions: if you have a drawing object which you've customized up in various ways, and want to be able to quickly reproduce it in the future, you can always save it as an AutoText.

Re: Copying drawing objects (Word 2000)

    Klaus,

I just tried it now (it worked) and realize what I did wrong before. I only had the focus on the box, but it wasn't actually selected. (As you know, those two conditions look very similar.) I have just recently read about the SetAutoShape defaults but haven't tried it. Thanks for your help. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Russ,

And in addition to the other comments: if you have an object selected, press CTRL+d (CTRL and d at the same time) and this will duplicate the selected object. When you do this once, you get a clone, which becomes the selected item. You can do CTRL+d again to get a 3rd. Etc.
