Extracting Text (Excel 2000/9.0)

Need your help creating a formula. In column A is a list of names; example, John Doe. I'm looking to put in column B the same name but with the last name first, separated by a comma; example, Doe, John.

So far I have come up with this formula, =RIGHT(B5,FIND(" ",B5)+1) to extract the last name and put it in column B, but don't know how to add to the formula to get a comma after the last name, then a space and the first name in that same cell.

Anyone willing to give me a quick fix. Thanks big time!!

Barb, If you are sure that column A always has First-Space-Last, then
=RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-FIND(" ",A1)) & ", " & LEFT(A1,FIND(" ",A1)-1)

should do it. For more complex names check out Chip Pearson's name formulas. HTH --Sam

    Thanks a million times Sam.

It's amazing what Excel can do; if only I can learn how to make it do what I want it to.

    You're GREAT!!!!
