    Searching files in 2002 (2002)

It's hard to believe, but Microsoft has continued its fine tradition of making the Word file search even worse. OK, I'll admit that there is some improvement over 2000, in that the Task Pane results are non-modal, so you can open the results one file at a time, something I don't think you've been able to do since 97 (or was it v6?). But the 'look in' dialog is grim in the extreme - all that drilling down, and there no longer seems to be the choice of looking for 'exact phrase' etc. Anyone know if this functionality is buried somewhere in Word 2002? I've managed to drag the former Format Style and File New dialogs back into the land of the living, but can't seem to make much headway with the file search.

    Hi Tim:
I gave up on Word's file searching long ago. If you're looking for a great, free alternative see this post. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Thanks. Phil. I'll certainly give that a try
