If you can click on any part of the picture, do so and then right click>Order>Bring in front of text. But I would guess you have the object behind a text box completely covering the pic.

In that case, click on the text box border then right click>Order>Send behind text

To do this, I put on the drawing toolbar and click on the select objects arrow (to the right of the word Draw) and click on the picture. I haven't got XP, but it works in 2000 this way.

    Geof,

In addition to using the select-object arrow, once you've turned on that mode (in effect, you're now in Word's drawing layer), you can use the tab key to tab from object to object. That is, select an object you can see. Now hit the tab key. If there is an object hiding behind another object, you will eventually see the handles (the little square boxes at the corners and the middles of the object) around an object that you may not be able to see otherwise. Now you can bring that one to the front or move it. Successive hitting the tab goes from object to object in the drawing layer. When you get to the last one (as Word thinks of it), the next tab goes to the first one. Shift-tab goes in reverse direction.

This was even in Word 97.
