Colorado (HP) tape drive to be shot at dawn

Ack! I have between 4-6 gb of backed-up data on tape, but I can't access it to do a restore. I installed the same Colorado backup sw I used to do the backup and it doesn't see the tape drive. I try using the Windows backup (Win 98SE) and it won't look anywhere but the HDD-based default backup file, which I don't have. I go to download an updated version of the backup sw from HP's website, and the only sw (or drivers) they offer are for NT or for DOS (?!). Does anyone know of a good backup software that would recognize the format of my Colorado backup?
I've had 2 Colorado tape drives and each came with a disk with the then-current version of their software. Last time, I had backed up using the older version and then I forgot and tried to restore using the newer version; it didn't recognize the archives created by the older version. I'm trying to phase out using ANY tape drive; this was to be the 'last restore'. You know what they say - wish in one hand.....

Hope I haven't missed Dawn I will line my old Colorado up beside yours. Mine seemed to refuse to work because I put too much data on it and it didn't have enough room left to build an index.

Anyway I went to Jazz and now they don't market the tapes I need for the model I have. I just can't keep up with the changing technology.

Here's <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> from an HP DAT owner who has made threats to his hardware with being auctioned off at E-Bay with no reserve price.

I'm presuming this is a SCSI drive. Is it recognised by your SCSI Interrogator program (EZ-SCSI)? Are the cables securely connected? Does the device have it's own unique ID? Is it properly terminated?

You're going to tell me it's not SCSI now, aren't you?

Nope - not a SCSI. Sorry, Fish. The link to driverguide that Leif provided got me the software I was looking for (thanks, Leif) - anybody know why it was nowhere to be found on the HP website? Are they so opposed to people being able to use their own products?
The first tape I put in, however, got chewed up. I looked inside the drive and it was a mess of dust, so I vacuumed it out, but I haven't had a chance to try another tape yet.
