Help with HP LaserJet 5p issue!!!

    Hello All,
    Brian from New Jersey.
I do networks and computer trouble shooting. I am working on my MCSE so I am beyond the beginner stage with this issue.
The issue is that the computer does not see the printer when turned on in the morning. Under device manager I have to switch between the port settings Try not to use and interrupt,Never use an interrupt and Use any interrupt. When I switch the setting, the printer works. So if I switch from Never to Use Any, it works, then if someone switches it on and logs in the next day, they would have to go in and change from Use Any to Never or Try not to use. The comp then recognizes the printer and it works fine all day again.
As you can imagine, the boss does not want to deal with this each day! lol
I have enabled legacy support and tried all available drivers, even the ones for W2K downloaded from HP.com.
The HP Laserjet 5P is connected via parallel port to a W2K workstation.
This printer is NOT to be networked (the boss wants it to himself).
ANy suggestions or help out there? HP does not support this printer now. I need an answer soon! <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15>

Has there ever been a device, like a scanner, installed on this computer that shared the parallel port with a printer? If so, the driver for that device could be blocking the printer driver from seeing the printer.

Have you displayed all off-line devices in device manager? You may find this has something to do with the parallel port drivers or even the motherboard drivers. Just some things to check. Let us know what happens.

Just a quickie note to let everyone know what the solution was for the HP Laserjet 5p issue under Win2k connecting via parallel port.
I went and missed the simplest thing! Bios settings. I went into the BIOS and chance the peripheral setting from ECP mode to EPP mode.
Everything has been fine ever since. I should have known better and I am mad at myself for missing the obvious!
    Thanks for all the tips!
