Rapid Mouse Highlighting in Word 97 (Word 97 SR-2)

We have several users experiencing very rapid mouse movement when highlighting text in large Word 97 documents. This is a Microsoft mouse on Windows 2000. When a user drags the cursor over text to highlight it they move quickly down many paragraphs and/or pages resulting in highlight more information than they wanted. This does not involve the mouse wheel, just highlighting and dragging. Slowing down the mouse cursor movement speed does not eliminate the rapid highlighting problem.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have found that using the Shift key in combo with either the Page Up/Down or one of the Arrow keys is a lot better than using the Mouse <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Another way:
    - put the mouse pointer (click) at the beginning of the text to select
    - scroll down to see the end of selection
    - press and hold Shift key, then put the mouse pointer (click) at the end of selection.

"Fast Mouse" is the known bug since Winword 2 and still present in Word 2002 (and in all Office applications).
