Error re: Web server when I'm not publishing (Front Page 2000)

I maintain a web site for a local soccer club. The site is published out to donated space on our ISP's web server. I update the web on the hard drive of my machine at home and then publish it up to the ISP's server. I created a form for members to send back their opinion on a club-wide issue. There were 3 check boxes. I want them to check the one that applies to them and then when they hit the submit button it should send me back an email with their response.
The problem is this: When I first created it I received an error message when I published it that the web server did not have the FrontPage extentions loaded. I checked with the ISP and sure enough, the were deleted and they had to reinstall them. In the interim I had deleted the page. After they told me all was OK, I recreated the form again but this time when I went into form properties and told it the email address to send the reponse to, I got the following error (print screen attached) saying basically that there were no extentions on the web server. I don't understand how I could even get this message at that point. I was still working on my hard drive and it couldn't know what is (or isn't) out on the web server I might post to? I did double check with the ISP, by the way, and the extentions are there. This is doubly frustrating because I did a similar form a year ago and never had any problem. Thanks for your help.

Try installing the server extension on your own PC also. Maybe that will get rid of this message. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Just stick to your guns and don't let FP delete your settings. Lots of things will work on your site that FP doesn't understand at design time, such as database queries.

Re: Error re: Web server when I'm not publishing (Front Page 2000)

I tried to download the extensions (could only find Front Page 2002) but it seems I have to have Windows .NET Standard Server installed first? I looked around the Microsoft site and that like a product I'd have to buy. I'm doing this web site for free and would rather not have to buy more software - especially since it seems like the form should work even if I have the server extensions on my machine. Anyway, I did publish the form despite the error message but it doesn't work once out of the site. The error says that there are no extensions on the server I am publishing to - but the ISP says they are there. If I need to pursue buying Windows .NET can anyone tell me how I find out how much it costs? I did a search on Outpost for Windows .NET Standard Server but nothing came up. Thanks again for any help. By the way, my operating system is Windows 98. Would upgrading to 2000 help?

    Try this URL. You'll have the extentions and they ARE free. <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>

Thank you. But this is the web site that I went to and I did download the 2002 extensions already. But the installation instructions say I have to have Windows .NET Server Standard. That is the product I cannot find. I did try to run install anyway but I get a message saying I have to have NT and the install ends unsuccesfully.

I believe you need server extensions for FP2000 - but more than that you need a server. The Microsoft Personal Web server is available on your Windows 98 CD - look for the folder called PWS.
You may also want to look at this post <!post=front,34352>Post 34352<!/post> from a previous thread discussing email and forms.

I find Windows 2000 more stable than 98 by a long shot. However, switching does involve having to deal with little security hassles, particularly for older software. You shouldn't need it to run FP 2000 perfectly well.

Did you ever find the solution to this problem - we were experiencing the same thing here (in fact, I created a post before going out to search Woody's site) and I think we've found a solution that works for us. Do you still need input? Otherwise, if you found a resolution, what ended up working for you?
