    Office OCR (Word 2002)

    Hi,

I apologize ahead of time. I will be posting a number of questions as I explore Word.

I tried the Office OCR system mentioned in Woody's Office XP book, but when I tried to "send text to Word," I got the error message: "The server threw an exception."

Any ideas on what to do?

    Thanks.

    Hi, Teresa

I'm about 0.75 steps ahead of you in the learning curve, but I think I have an answer. I found it by pointing my browser at http://support.microsoft.com and typing "my server threw an exception" into the search box. Among the list of possible matches I found this:

Error Messages in Programs That Use Word 2000 with Norton AntiVirus 2000 or 2001 Installed (Q243579). This could have been relevant, but I wasn't sure.

What really nailed it was, about two clicks down the page I read this "When you select Send to Microsoft Word from Microsoft Office XP Document Imaging, you receive either of the following error messages
The server threw an exception... "

So, copy this link, paste it into your browser and read what the minions of Bill Gates have to say: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;Q243579

By the way, the MS workaround tells you to turn off the Norton Anti-virus checking of Word documents. Is this wise? I suggest you check out this other web site where the MS Office gurus seem to think it's a great idea anyway. Check out the suggestion at this link : http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErr...peningWord.htm and look at paragraph (d) just less than halfway down the page.

While you are on this particular web site, spend an hour or two reading the various hints, tips and tutorials. If I am 0.75 steps ahead of you it is because I just found this site about an hour before I read your posting. So I don't really know much knowledge, I just know where to find it. Which is more than half the battle.

    Best of luck
