Display report dates in French? (Office 2000 Sr1a)

Is there some simple way I can get my long date fields on an Access report to display in French?
I could write a custom function in VBA but why re-invent the wheel if there is some simpler way?
    Any suggestions appreciated.

It depends on what you're trying to do. Is the entire application being presented in French? Are you using a French version of Office? If not, what is the purpose of presenting long dates in French?

If you only want to present the dates in French without using a French version of Office, you could parse the date into its components using functions like WeekDay and Month and then use a Choose() function to replace them in the string with the French equivalents.

I am creating a report to email to a French speaking person. So instead of 'Friday' I want it to put 'vendredi'
    and 'mars' for 'March'.
Looks like your parsing method is the most obvious way - I had thought of it but thought there might be some ready made piece of code to speed the process up. Thanks.
