Problem inserting bullet points... (Word 97 SR-2)

    Hi all,

One of our users has a strange problem with bullet points in Word 97. He does the following: highlights a section of text and presses the bullet point icon on the toolbar. But instead of placing bullet points in front of the selected text, Excel behaves as if all text above the selection was selected as well!

The document has no unusual formatting that I can see...

If anyone could point me in the right direction here I would be most greatful!

    Many thanks,

    C. Le Cras

Hmmm, no unusual formatting that you can see. Hopefully you are viewing all codes (Tools|Options...|View tab|All). Any chance that the text above the first bullet actually is part of the first bulleted paragraph? This could happen if the user separated the previous paragraphs with the new line (Shift+Enter) code rather than a new paragraph (Enter). Otherwise, the gurus of bullets and numbering will have to chime in.

One thing to look out for: Is "Automatically update" checked in the style definition ("Format > Style... > Modify...")?

BTW, applying bullets with the bullet icon is buggy in all recent versions. It's a lot safer to apply a bullet style.
