    USB 2.0

My wife got me a Maxtor USB 2 External drive <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15> for my birthday. It seems to work OK,, but it indicates that the drivers are not loaded everytime the PC boots with the drive connected, or the drive is hot connected. I think I have the correct Microsoft USB 2 drivers, although I'm not sure. The driver ID from Device Mgr for the USB 2.0 Root Hub is 5.1.2600.0. I downloaded what I thought was the latest Microsoft driver (Feb 25 date), but the system doesn't like it.

I have the sense that something is amiss, especially since the Device Mgr indicates that the driver for the drive is not loaded. Maxtor has no thoughts. ASUS lists an Adaptec USB 2 driver on their site, but I'm really not sure if it's needed, or where to put it if it is.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot everybody!

    Re: USB 2.0

If you are using Windows XP (This is the xp board) you are probably operating in USB 1.1. Windows XP does not support USB 2. SP1 is supposed to add USB 2 support.

    Re: USB 2.0

Actually, Microsoft has placed a USB 2 driver on the Windows Update site. The reason for my confusion was becuase there are several USB sites around that list different numbers for the official XP USB 2 driver. I don't believe they've released the Win2K driver yet, however.
